In the beginning, there was the Fool; and the Major Arcana plays out the rest of his tale. “The Fool’s Journey” is a fascinating and important concept for both beginners and tarot pros alike. Come along with me as I revisit this journey through 22 cards from 22 different decks.

Wheel of Fortune: And So the Wheel Keeps Turning

After spending some time in stillness and silence the Fool starts to see how everything moves and connects in the form of the Wheel of Fortune. He sees the greater forces at work in the universe, including the cycles of karma. He understands the bigger, grander scheme of things, and realize what his place is in all of it. With this fresh perspective, he is now ready to continue on his journey.

The Wheel of Fortune is depicted as the Wheel of the Year in Xia Hunt’s Children of Litha Tarot. Just as the Wheel of Fortune shows the overall cycle of our lives, the Wheel of the Year portrays the repeating cycle of life, death, and rebirth in the tale of the Goddess and the God. This quote from the deck’s guidebook best encapsulates the most important lesson to learn from the Wheel: “Fear not the wheel with its ups and downs; it’s on the same face whether it smiles or frowns.” No matter where you are in the cycle, remember that what goes up must come down, and when you’re down, there’s no other way to go but up.
