In the beginning, there was the Fool; and the Major Arcana plays out the rest of his tale. “The Fool’s Journey” is a fascinating and important concept for both beginners and tarot pros alike. Come along with me as I revisit this journey through 22 cards from 22 different decks.
Justice: Balancing the Scales
At this point in his journey, the Fool realizes that beyond just being in constant motion, the world keeps its own balance. Every action has consequences, and he begins to act with a better sense of Justice, fairness, and integrity. What goes around comes around, and he knows that everyone — including he himself — should be accountable and responsible for their decisions.

Justice in the Hush Tarot by Jeremy Hush is a beautiful, powerful sight. She is nude but armed, both with confidence and actual weapons. She stands tall, striding forward with an arrow pointing in the right direction in one hand, and a polearm poised to cut down anything that would obstruct her quest for the truth. The bees and the ants flanking her seemingly follow her without question — perhaps because they know better than to go against the very force that keeps everything in balance.

I have never claimed that Justice is a favorite card of mine, and now I’m wondering why. I have ALWAYS felt a strong connection with it. Even as a child, I’ve always had a strong sense of Justice and karma (which is a force that keeps everything in balance; it doesn’t just punish evil like most people mistakenly think). I’ve always hated seeing any living creature being treated unfairly — whether it was an animal being mistreated, or a schoolmate being bullied and treated as less than human. Karma will get them all in the end, but I will always stand up for those who are beaten down, and shout for those who can only whisper. (Yes, that is a Dauntless reference, in case any of y’all are fans of Divergent).
