The Fool: It Starts with Zero
Someone who is “foolish” is someone who lacks good sense or judgment; someone who often acts silly. But don’t you envy this Fool’s carefree spirit sometimes? Beginning a meaningful journey often means stepping out of your comfort zone and throwing caution to the wind. This is what the Fool is all about. Someone smarter may overthink the entire journey and hesitate to take the first step, but a fool will do so without question because he doesn’t even think of the dangers involved.

In the Rider Waite Smith deck, we see the Fool set out on a journey with only the clothes on his back, a trusty companion, and a tiny bag of possessions—quite literally starting from scratch/zero. He’s obviously eager to venture out and see what lies ahead… even as he fails to actually see the cliff right in front of him.
